SPIKING WITH MAIR HOWELLS

But Why? - Un pódcast de Clemmie Telford

In this episode Clemmie explores spiking with Mair Howells, who founded @ivebeenspiked - a safe space for victims who have been spiked to share their stories, seek support and demand action. Mair started the platform in March of 2020, shortly after she had her drink spiked (in February 2020). She is now one of the leading activists fighting for change in the current state of drink spiking in the UK, and in the more general field of violence against women and girls. Mair is also the host and producer of ‘Pricks’ podcast which explores the spiking epidemic and looks to get under the skin of the problem. How big is the problem? According to The Alcohol Trust, 1 in 10 young people have been spiked. And in a 2021 The Tab survey, it was found that of 23,000 students, 2.5 thousand had been spiked. Across five episodes, Pricks unpicks the big topics surrounding spiking, from why only 8% of victims report instances of spiking, to the psychology of predators, the night time industry, the role of the government, and the extent to which spiking is part of a wider issue of violence against women.  Follow Clemmie on Instagram @Clemmie_Telford.
