Theresa Alvarez was left with her maternal grandparents at 8 years old after her own mother died. Unfortunately, her grandparents could not financially support extra mouths to feed and Theresa along with her brother were often homeless. That is until Margaret Theut along with a great aunt- Janet Jenkins took the kids in and provided for them.
