At the same time, the seeds of industrial, grunge, and nu-metal were beginning to sprout in the fertile soil of the heavy underground. It's hard to think Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Nine Inch Nails when you think of the 1980s, but there they were (even High on Fire was active, though few, if any, recordings are extant from this early period).
