T.I. on the first Hip-Hop tape he bought

This year we celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop. Born at a birthday party in the rec room of an apartment building in The Bronx, New York City on August 11, 1973 -- Hip-Hop's cultural impact is still growing and rising to new heights as one of the most influential musical art forms. As part of the celebration of Hip-Hop’s journey through the years, artists, cities, events, and stories, were asking artists, actors and anyone who’s willing, to share some of their firsts when it comes to the influential and trailblazing genre and culture that is Hip-Hop. Joining in on the celebration and conversation, ATL legend T.I. shared how does Hip-Hop makes him feel and what his first Hip Hop album, or in his case tape, was. When asked how Hip Hop makes him feel, T.I. expressed, “that’s a trick question, I don’t feel I just am. I don’t think there’s a feeling associated with it, it’s an existence… I think it’s omnipresent, everything all at once.” And “the first Hip Hop tape that I ever bought," the answer might actually surprise you. T.I. revealed it was 2 Live Crew, As Nasty as They Wanna Be. "I was a about eight,” T.I. admitted, “I tricked my Grandmama, she made me go shopping with her and I told her instead of a toy I wanted a tape, and she was like ‘just get it whatever,’” not knowing it’s highly inappropriate and controversial nature. “The person behind the counter looked at me like ‘word?’" T.I. added, “and I was like ‘yeah…’.”
