This week, as 2021 draws to a close, we look back 50 years to songs that were number one in 1971. And not just number one in the USA pop charts. We feature songs that made the top in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, as well as less mainstream charts, like the Billboard soul chart. These were the songs that were rocking people’s world when most of us were still learning our times tables or, perhaps, weren’t yet a twinkle in anyone’s eye, and they still sound just as fresh and fabulous today.
