How Europe Promises To Protect Migrant Women

Meanwhile in Europe - Un pódcast de Meanwhile in Europe

Welcome back to the show! Today, we're diving into a critical and urgent issue: addressing gender-based violence (GBV) faced by women and girls throughout their migration journeys to and within the European Union. With migration levels at unprecedented highs, migrant and displaced women and girls encounter elevated risks of GBV in their countries of origin, during transit, and even upon arrival in EU destination countries, including in reception facilities, transit sites, and local communities. While the EU has made significant strides against GBV, including acceding to the Istanbul Convention and adopting new directives, current migration and security instruments, like the European agenda on migration and the pact on migration and asylum, do not consistently integrate a gender perspective. This episode explores how the transformative potential of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda can be leveraged to build a more comprehensive and gender-responsive approach.
