Dr. Dan welcomes inspiring author and mom Marie Myung-Ok Lee to the podcast today. This episode about parenting, autism, maternal instinct, and research/writing is powerful – it will resonate with listeners for a very long time. Marie and her husband are devoted parents raising their young adult autistic son in New York City. Marie is a pioneer using cannabis to treat her son (she was featured on CNN with Dr. Gupta) and she’s now a powerful advocate. During their conversation Marie shares some great news about her son and also speaks about her new book The Evening Hero, a novel about the future of medicine, immigration, and North Korea. Marie Myung-Ok Lee is an acclaimed Korean-American writer and author of the novel Somebody’s Daughter. She graduated from Brown University and was a Writer in Residence there before she began teaching at Columbia University’s Writing Division. Her stories and essays have been published widely and she was the first Fulbright Scholar to Korea in creative writing. Marie has received many honors for her work and is a founder of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop.
