“Happiness is an illusion, my parents aren’t happy, so how can it happen for me?.”  I heard a phrase like this from an older teen I spoke to earlier this week. We were discussing whether we’d be a good fit to work together and her hope was wavering. This is such a shame, since we know teens have their whole life ahead of them to visualize the possibilities of their future. The challenge here is that this is a common theme I see when I work with parents of sensitive children. Eventually their light starts to dim and it affects their marriage. They struggled for so long trying to figure out how to parent their child that they argue and drift apart. I’ve seen it early in the parenthood journey, and this pattern doesn’t go away without radical change. Listen on to learn more.
