We all want the holidays to be full of magic and joy but so often they aren’t. We are stressed, have a million things on our plate, so many more events on the calendar. Schedule are off, kids aren’t in school, sweets are aplenty, and there are so many opportunities for all of us to feel overwhelmed. It can be a joy killer to have your kids overstimulated, hyper, asking constantly for things, and misbehaving. So what can you do to make the holidays run more smoothly? Go to them (don’t yell from another room) 2. Connect to them (touch him/her on the shoulder for example) 3. Make your request 4. take them (“c’mon let's go together”) 5. Help them if they need it (be as supportive as you can this isn’t a time for criticizing them for what they can or can’t do) Active Compassionate listening: Listen without judgement, interrupting, with your full attention (put your phone down!)
