Once or twice a month (at least!) I have a day when I just need to slow down. I either have a headache, brain fog, fatigue, or all three. For me, it's most likely a result of whatever's going on with my thyroid that day, but really the why of it isn't that important. What we're talking about this week is the specific circumstance of illness or fatigue and the beliefs I see parents carrying that interfere with or prevent them from taking care of themselves. If you can't find a way to slow down and tend to your body when it's giving you very clear signals that it needs you to, you are drawing out the experience; the more you ignore it and try to push through, the longer it's going to last, and the more likely it is to affect your patience with your family and your tolerance for other people's imperfections.Tending to yourself and taking care of yourself matters. It makes all of life's ups and downs easier to take. But it can be hard to put into practice. Why is that? What's getting in the way of you taking care of yourself?--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/julia-mcgarey/support Get full access to The Blackbird Chronicles at juliamcgarey.substack.com/subscribe This is a public episode.
