Is "Initiation" the solution to male depression and anxiety? In the early 1990s, the mythopoetic men's movement started telling men that what they were missing in their lives was "initiation" -- presumably into manhood. But what would these men be initiated INTO? Modern society completely lacks a consensus about what manhood is and what the rights and responsibilities of a man are.What is initiation from an anthropological perspective? Who is selling it to men these days, and what are they selling -- beyond "experiences?" What are some authentic contemporary forms of initiation?
