I'm sharing 9 science-backed ways for parents and teens to manage stress and anxiety, that just take a little bit of commitment and knowledge to take effect. In this episode, we get into: How to breathe effectively for stress management (I walk you through a round of the Square Breathing technique at the 2:00 mark) My recommendation to make mindfulness meditation more doable, so it's easier to use that skill to lower stress in your daily experiences How physical movement helped one of my teenage clients manage the stress of adjusting to college life What studies show happens when you reframe "anxiety as excitement" vs. tell yourself to "stay calm" when you're stressed An important fact about how teens experience stressful situations after they don't get enough sleep An intro to Relaxation Exercises (specific techniques for managing stress, like the Progressive Relaxation Exercise and Yoga Nidra) What other people in your life have to do with your ability to manage stress How to utilize the "controllables" to manage stress, especially when it's coming out of fear of the unknown (I describe an activity I do with clients to help with this, called the Circle of Control) The impact optimism has on your biological response to stress (bonus: You don't even have to be "positive all the time" to manage stress better! But I give you specific ideas on how to build optimism overall, so you're better equipped to handle and lower stress.) If you choose one option from this list (I recommend picking the one that feels easy and doable) and you commit to integrating it into your life for at least a month, you'll be able to see how it impacts your level of stress! -- Join my free parent group Apply to work with me Follow me on Instagram Check out my YouTube Channel.
