In this episode, we delve into the impact of having a narcissist in your life, how to navigate co-parenting with a narcissist, and how to support your teen when they've developed a relationship with a narcissist. Laura explains the two things that make a narcissist a narcissist: They use harmful tools to get their needs met They lack the ability to have self-awareness or empathy for the person in front of them This naturally presents a challenge for people in any kind of relationship with narcissists. They feel emotionally attacked — they're sent into fight/flight mode — they're trying to survive and get their needs met. This means they're more likely to people-please the narcissist, just to make things calm and peaceful again. Over time, they can end up in a whole quagmire of terrible feelings and confusion.
