What is Human Activity Recognition and why is it so important for Parkinson’s research? What is the relationship between freezing of gait or FOG and brain circuitry? And how are edge computing, wearables, AI, and self-reporting helping researchers in the fight against Parkinson’s? We’ll be exploring those questions and much more with two Emory University professors focused on better understanding Parkinson’s to help push toward a cure. Dr. Lucas McKay is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Neurology at the Emory University School of Medicine. He also holds a courtesy position and receives funding from the Biomedical Engineering Department at Emory/Georgia Tech. Dr. Hyeok Kwon is a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Emory University and received his Ph.D. in computer science at the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech. His research is focused on human-centered artificial intelligence systems and the application of computational analysis in the domain of health-related behaviors. The two were recently awarded an Oracle for Research cloud computing award to further their research around Parkinson’s disease.
