While nothing in surfing is particularly easy, being in position when a wave breaks does make catching it that much easier. Being just out of position, having to paddle to catch as wave as it breaks and dropping down the face of the wave is known as a late drop. More often than not, you will either not catch the wave to make the late drop or will wipe out in the attempt. When a user surfs to your website, you may choose to send him elsewhere.  This is called a "redirect" and is a standard tool to direct traffic. For instance, if you surf to the misspelled domain "gogle.com," you will be redirected to Alta Vista.  If you have a bad surfing redirect on your website, though, you may be driving traffic away from the page you want users to view.
