FDA approved eTNS (external Trigeminal Nerve Stimulation) system to treat ADHD in children ages 7-12. eTNS is a nerve stimulation treatment that delivers low-level stimulation to branches of the trigeminal nerve. The pulse is delivered via a patch on the child’s forehead. By simulating the Trigeminal nerve, signals are sent to the areas of the brain that control function with the idea of improving impulse control. In the trial, participants did see a reduction in ADHD symptoms. But long-term effects on the brain aren't known.
