In this episode I chat to doulas Samantha Gadsden and Maddie McMahon about the escalating midwifery crisis. Sam, who runs hugely popular home birth and freebirth Facebook groups, has unique insight in to the challenges birthing families face due to the number of people who pass through her groups, and Maddie is instrumental in creating the March with Midwives campaign, now in it's second year. We discuss why midwifery is in crisis, the impact this is having on both midwives, they way they practice, and their mental health, as well as the very real and negative impact this is having on birthing people and their long term outcomes for mothers and babies. The March with Midwives demonstrations are nationwide on 20th November 2pm. Check out https://linktr.ee/MarchWithMidwivesUK to find your local rally, share and raise awareness on social media and let's get the government to take note.
