To celebrate the London Film Festival screening of EXPRMNTL, a documentary about the first experimental film festival, founded in 1949, we reflect on where we have got to in the intervening years. Is there still a place for experimental film festivals? What are they for? What is the relationship between the mainstream and the fringe in contemporary film culture?
