Series 1, Episode 7: Why do we dream? The Science and Art of Dreaming with Mark Blagrove and Julia Lockheart

Why do we dream? It's one of the biggest questions about dreaming. One theory is that dream sharing is essential to the social development of our species because it helps create empathy. In this episode, Laura and Dave talk to Professors Mark Blagrove and Julia Lockheart about their new book, The Science and Art of Dreaming, in which they share the development of their theory of dream sharing and empathy.  They also talk about their collaboration on DreamsID, their series of live events in which Mark leads an exploration of an audience member’s dream while Julia paints images and narratives from the dream onto the pages of Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams.
