Today’s guest is Deborah Tuerkheimer. She is a professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her law degree from Yale Law School. Tuerkheimer served for five years as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney's Office, where she specialized in domestic violence and child abuse prosecution. She’s written a new book called Credible: Why We Doubt Accusers And Protect Abusers.  In this episode we discuss how to create a safe space for people to openly talk about their trauma and abuse, what Deborah calls the credibility complex and how to work around it, what to do if you’re a victim who hasn’t shared your story yet, why abusers have traditionally been protected and what we need to change in our society, the immediate steps you should take after being abused and so much more. It is my intention to help spread awareness to help those who have dealt with abuse, but there is a chance that this episode could be a trigger for some of you.
