Poland Prepares to Withdraw from the Istanbul Convention

Visegrad Insight Podcast - Un pódcast de Res Publica Foundation - Martes

In 2015, Poland ratified the Istanbul Convention on gender equality and combating violence against women. Now, Poland's government appears set to withdraw from this Council of Europe convention over its supposed promotion of 'gender ideology' and alleged threats to a 'pro-family identity'. Earlier this year, the Hungarian parliament blocked ratification of the convention, raising similar concerns. Together with Magda Jakubowska, Vice President of the Res Publica Foundation, and Kerry Longhurst, Jean Monnet Professor at Collegium Civitas, we discuss the meaning of the convention and what is the plight of women and gender equality in Central Europe.
